The Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association

The Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association

We were very privileged back in July 2014 to have the Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association commemorative service, held in the grounds of the Shrubbery. We were delighted and proud to be hosting a second event for them on their 50th Anniversary when they had a parade on April 22nd through Kidderminster town centre.

The Regimental Association was joined by the serving members of the armed forces and the Tenbury Wells Town Band for the parade. This was to commemorate the 50th Anniversary since the formation of the 1st Battalion Mercian Volunteers and the disbandment of the 7th Battalion Worcestershire regiment. It was also to re-affirm the right to march through the town from the time when the honour of the freedom of the City was granted to the Regiment.

The march started at 12.00 hours and finished at the grounds of the Shrubbery Nursing Home where the Drumhead ceremony and beating retreat was held on the lawns at the front at 13.30 hours.

The weather was delightful, the sun shone down and many visitors came to witness this very memorable and emotional ceremony.
