The Shrubbery Nursing Home

ActivitiesThere are many activities adapted and formulated for our residents to look forward to and enjoy, even more importantly, that they find them rewarding and beneficial to them. They are designed to incorporate all Saints days, Celebrations, sporting events covered by TV from around the world; the social calendar is also included. Where ever possible we try not to overlook any one occasion that we feel may be of an interest in some way to any of our residents.

We have more one to one person centred activity sessions with art classes, pottery, cookery, sewing, drawing and embracing new technology with laptops and I pads with games, e-mails and messages to loved ones living further away or abroad. We have music and movement, relaxation sessions and music appreciation from all genres on our weekly and monthly programme. Sensory therapies are also very important for our dementia patients with aromatherapy hand massages being offered, soft touch and fragrance sessions and craft work using textiles.

Exercise is a very important stimulation for our residents, particularly for those who find movement of any description quite difficult. Armchair exercise is offered regularly within our professional, weekly exercise session along with music and musical instruments and carefully designed for movements of joints and muscles. Some of our residents also enjoy competitive games such as target practice, play your cards right, skittles, soft darts or seated netball and all of our games are constantly being upgraded and reinvented to add variety of fun to everything that we do.

ActivitiesA variety of quality entertainers visit us here offering music, dance and other interesting projects.  We have sing-along, easy listening, swing, classical singers, groups and choirs. Music is always a very welcome component to our programmes and appears to be looked forward to by most of our residents.
Local school children offer regular visits, entertaining us with seasonal songs each term of the year.  We have regular contact with local schools and colleges offering students work experience placements and a number of volunteers, who give their time willingly to occupy our residents providing comfort and friendship. Included amongst our regular visitors are local clergy offering Holy Communion services once each month to residents of all denominations.

Description: C:\Users\Jan\Downloads\girl visiting..jpgOur homes all enjoy a Summer Fete or Garden party once a year offering a wonderful time to our residents.
This is one of several events that we hold throughout the year including Valentine’s Day, Easter celebrations, Mothering Sunday, harvest festival, Halloween party nights, bank holiday fun days and of course the biggest event of Christmas is always the most special time.

To complete the celebrations we have all of our resident’s individual birthdays to look forward to, offering us another chance for a party time.
